How long will these kind of GPU deals last?
With Black Friday outperforming our expectations in all regards this year, we knew that the deals would be here to stay a little longer this year. As Cyber Monday marks the end of the deals season in November, we couldn’t be more thankful that the savings are going on. Will they last until December? It’s hard to tell. There will definitely be some GPU deals floating around come December 1st however the quantity and quality of deals is likely to drop in the coming days. All we can say is that we recommend acting fast as soon as you have seen a deal that’s right for you.
What are the main factors to consider when picking up a GPU deal
Resolution
The resolution you’re looking to play at will have a big impact on which GPU deal you should go for. For instance, if you’re happy with your 1080p monitor and will not be upgrading to a higher resolution any time soon, then a GPU of the highest standard will be overkill. Mid-range options will be able to give you impressive frame rates while even more budget GPUs will be able to hold their own.
Monitor refresh rate
Each monitor’s refresh rate will be described in Hertz, or how many times it refreshes a second. This is separate from the FPS of your game however there are some important things to consider regarding the relationship between these two factors. If you have a monitor that has a native high refresh rate of say 240Hz, you will only maximize the benefit of this if you have a GPU that can supply you with high enough frames. On the flip side, should you have a monitor that only refreshes 60 times a second, you can encounter a variety of issues if you’re GPU is pushing the frames significantly higher. At this point it’s likely you will use vertical sync to coordinate the refresh rate and frame per second of your monitor and GPU, rendering the extra power of your GPU somewhat redundant.
Your chosen games
Games come in all different forms and so they demand very different things from the GPU. If you’re looking to play the very latest AAA open-world titles with graphics settings pushed high, you’re likely going to have to invest in a higher-end graphics card to cover your needs.
