Finishing a good game easily brings joy and satisfaction, but finishing a great game often leads us into an empty void of nothing. We hit a high so great that for days or even weeks, we carry on wondering if that same feeling and rush of emotions can ever be realized again.
2024 brings lots of promise with it; plenty of new and upcoming titles that may be able affect gamers the same way. Whether it’s your first time seeking that immersive, magical experience, or you’re chasing that nostalgia, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for what’s to come this year. Here are some games to look out for to play on your gaming PC or gaming laptop.
Tekken 8
One of this year’s most anticipated games is already out. Tekken 8 is a continuation of the beloved fighting game franchise and if not even for the gameplay, it’s worth taking a look at for the art and story. The plot must continue, so anybody interested in seeing how the Mishima saga unfolds is in for a treat. Without spoiling anything, let’s just say that lifetime fans will appreciate the love put into the project. Of course, with every sequel in this day and age, you can expect the designs and artwork to vastly improved. Tekken 8 is no exception and whether you want to stick with the cosmetics provided, or go ahead and throw in some mods (we won’t judge you), the game is definitely easy on the eyes with its gorgeous visuals.
For competitive players, it introduces new mechanics such as the “heat” system as well as a revamped arcade mode that allows for customizable avatars and more. Great challenges await and anybody looking for a game they can potentially sink thousands of hours into can definitely get their money’s worth out of practically any fighting game, Tekken 8 included.
Persona 3 Reload
Fans of the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series were ecstatic to hear about the remake of a beloved title, Persona 3. Persona 3 Reload is a reboot of the critically acclaimed JRPG that arguably put the series on the board, at least for mainstream gamers. Aside from a killer soundtrack and beautiful artwork that pops out, the countless memes of high schoolers aiming pistols at themselves to awaken their maximum power is definitely unforgettable to say the least. First timers and die-hard fans alike can enjoy the love and detail put into this long-awaited reboot.
Star Wars Outlaws
Big news for fans of the franchise – another Star Wars game is set to release this year! Star Wars Outlaws takes place chronologically between “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi.” Not too much is known about the game yet, but from what we do know, you’ll play as Kay Vess, a scoundrel seeking freedom along with her companion Nix. You’ll attempt a heist that spans across several planets in the Star Wars Universe, including familiar ones like Tatooine, Kijimi, and Akiva. Join the ranks of the galaxy’s most wanted as you navigate through its crime syndicates, employing your skills in combat and cunning to rise to the top.
Warhammer Space Marine II
After only a 13 year wait, the sequel to Warhammer Space Marine, Warhammer Space Marine II, continues the story where you’ll play as Titus, a lieutenant of the Ultramarines chapter. The third-person shooter, hack-and-slash features some gruesome, high action gameplay. You’ll need to practice your aim and also be ready to slog it out with enemies at a moment’s notice. Fans can expect intense combat, epic battles, and further exploration of the rich lore of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree
Elden Ring returns with a brand new DLC, expanding on the beloved (or despised) world that captured the attention of gamers upon release. Elden Ring, winner of several awards including “Game of the Year” is set to receive a large expansion, giving players more content to explore and a chance to brush off the dust from an unforgotten favorite. In addition to the base world, the Land of Shadow will be available to venture through, along with a plethora of new weapons, equipment, skills, enemies, and bosses. Best of luck to gamers brave enough to once again challenge the demon known as Elden Ring.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Continuing the trend of remakes of classic JRPGs, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is technically available now. However, you’ll need a console to play it; anyone interested in playing one of the most popular JRPs of all time will unfortunately have to wait. But, the good news, and also the reason we’ve included it here, is that the chances of future PC release are high. In the case of the prequel, Final Fantasy VII Remake, we saw the game make its way to PC only a year after the initial release.
With so many games out and coming out soon, it’s important to make sure your PC is well-equipped to offer the most immersive experience. The last thing you want is for a game to crash at a crucial moment during a fight, or an emotional cutscene to randomly freeze. Customize a high-end, liquid-cooled GENESIS gaming desktop to run current games at maxed out settings and also prepare yourself for any demanding future releases.
