Sirui Launches Sniper APS-C Autofocus Lenses

There’s now another line of cinematic prime lenses for APS-C users.

The Sirui Sniper line consists of a 23 mm T1.2, 33 mm T1.2, and 56 mm T1.2 lens and is essentially an autofocus variant of the company’s manually focused NightWalker line.

With a 35mm equivalent of 35 mm, 50 mm, and 85 mm respectively, the Sirui Sniper series offers a field of view for Super 35 mm/APS-C image sensors.

The lenses offer a minimum focus distance of 30 cm for the 22 mm T1.2, 40 cm for the 33 mm T1.2, and 60 cm for the 56 mm T1.2.

The lenses are constructed with 12 elements organized in 11 groups for the 22mm and 56mm lenses, and 11 elements in 10 groups for the 33 mm lens.

The lenses consist of 1 Extra Low Dispersion glass element, except for the 23 mm, and each lens has 6, 1, and 4 high refractive index elements respectively.

All three have an 11-bladed aperture which provides a smooth, round bokeh and shallow depth of field. The lenses also support Eye Autofocus with subject recognition which is found on most mirrorless cameras these days, and with a T1.2-16 speed rating, the lenses perform well in low light.

The autofocus STM motors are also ultra-quiet, enabling camera operators to get up and personal with the lens’s Close Distance AF feature.

Sirui also states that the lenses enjoy minimal focus breathing and a “strictly controlled” aberration to provide tight focus from the extreme ends of the focal length. For manual focus, the lenses offer a 360° rotation angle.

The lenses are 92.2 mm (3.6 inches) in length and weigh about 380-427 grams (.8-.94 pounds). The lenses are fitted with a 58 mm filter thread and are available in either Sony E-mount, Fuji X-mount, or Nikon’s Z-Mount configurations.

The 23 mm and 33 mm lenses also come with a petal-shaped lens hood to reduce vignetting, while the longer 56mm lens features a fully round lens hood.
