New Ryzen CPUs are on the way to even further extend the lifespan of AM4

If you thought that AM4 was going away any time soon, think again. AMD is gearing up to launch yet another set of Ryzen 5000 processors following expansion just earlier this year. This new range is labelled the 5000XT series and looks to extend support well into 2025.

Alongside more Ryzen 8000 series CPUs on the way, an event in China has revealed that Ryzen 5000XT is in fact the latest chapter of AM4. Considering that many people are still yet to make the jump to AM5, it makes sense to keep supporting the previous generation for as long as viably possible.

AMD due to launch the Ryzen 5000 XT series

This kind of ‘XT’ spec was last seen in the 3000 series, with those models boasting 100MHz-200MHz higher clock speeds than the originals. They didn’t quite take off, so we’re interested to see if AMD has anything else to offer here. There aren’t any specifics mentioned; back in the 3000 series, we saw the 3900XT, 3800XT, and 3600XT.

It looks like the AM4 socket is here to stay as we’ve already seen the release of the 5600GT, 5500GT, and 5700X3D earlier this year. The newer XT series will be joining them to ‘attack every price point’, as AMD says.

Is AM4 still worth it?

Back when the 5800X3D released, we assumed it would be the last AM4 CPU. How wrong we were. AMD has gone on to release a number of additional SKUs to the 5000 series to give a wider range of gaming-focused 3D V-cache models. It was somewhat of a surprise, but we’re all for it. Anyway, it proves that AM4 is still relevant to this day, especially now with 5000XT on the way.

If you already have an AM4 motherboard, then sticking with the platform is a sensible choice in the name of saving pennies. However, for brand-new builds with a little extra cash to splash, we’d recommend AM5, as it is becoming more affordable and it’s much more future-proof.
