The interesting Victorian fantasy setting certainly appeals to us, and we’re sure that many of you will agree that it looks stunning – which only heightens the need to find the best gaming monitor to display it on.
We’ve tracked down some of the best of the best across different resolutions, as well as throwing in a more budget-friendly option for you to consider. Two of our top picks include the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 and Alienware AW3423DW if you’re interested in the best visual fidelity and immersion.

Best 4K monitor for Nightingale: Samsung Odyssey Neo G8
Samsung Odyssey Neo G8
Pros
- Immersive 32″ curved screen
- Super bright visuals
- Smooth 240Hz / 1ms response time
- AMD FreeSync Premium Pro support
Cons
- Hard to make the most of 240Hz
We have to start with a high-end 4K display for Nightingale if you want to take in every detail possible. While you’ll need a powerful rig to output plenty of frames in this game at 4K, the high visual fidelity on offer here is hard to pass up if you have the chance.
The Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 boasts a large 32-inch panel with immersive 1000R curvature to keep you lost within the world of Nightingale. It offers up to 240Hz refresh rate for smooth visuals and the 1ms response time helps negative any ghosting issues. FreeSync Premium Pro is also on board to prevent annoying screen tear.
Importantly, Samsung’s Neo range benefits from QLED technology with mini-LED backlighting for super bright visuals and excellent HDR performance. The Neo G8 is rated for HDR2000 (peak brightness 2,000 nits) for top-notch color accuracy and contrast levels to make the in-game world really pop.
Best ultrawide monitor for Nightingale: Alienware AW3423DW
Pros
- QD-OLED visuals are hard to beat
- Large 34″ screen
- High 175Hz refresh rate
- Rapid 0.1ms response time
Cons
- Ultrawide is not for everyone
When picking out an ultrawide option, we had to go for OLED – such as the widely popular AW3423DW from Alienware. This is fitted with a QD-OLED panel which mixes in Quantum Dot technology to help achieve higher brightness than other OLEDs. As one of the best ultrawide gaming monitors, this monitor is great for immersive gameplay across all supported titles. One gameplay video showcasing Nightingale at the same 3440 x 1440 resolution as this monitor proves support.
OLED panels are perfect for gaming thanks to excellent lifelike accuracy, near-instant 0.1ms response times, and the AW3423DW even features a smooth 175Hz refresh rate backed up Nvidia G-Sync Ultimate for the best support. Thanks to the self-lit design per pixel, OLED monitors give you true blacks, and for an open world game with some pitch-black cave or low-lit environments, this ensures Nightingale will look at its best while remaining readable.
While not as large as some 49″ or even 57″ monitors, the 34″ ultrawide resolution at a 21:9 aspect ratio is something of a sweetspot for many people that want to upgrade to ultrawide without being too overkill. Obviously, it doesn’t require as much desk space either.
Best 1440p monitor for Nightingale: Corsair Xeneon 27QHD240
Pros
- Crisp OLED panel
- 240Hz refresh / 0.03ms response
- 27″ screen size suitable for 1440p
- Excellent connectivity options
Our next choice is yet another OLED monitor, this time at a standard 16:9 QHD resolution, commonly known as 1440p. As monitor we’ve had to the pleasure of doing some hands-on testing with, our Corsair Xeneon 27QHD240 review is a good read if you’re interested in this model. Again, deep blacks will look fantastic in Nightingale and the 27QHD240 offers a smaller 27″ option at a 2560 x 1440 resolution that is easier for your gaming PC to handle – making it easier to make better use of the 240Hz refresh rate.
A rapid 0.03ms response time means you don’t have to worry about ghosting or motion blur, and the HDMI 2.1 connectivity makes it a decent option for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles as well if you want a little extra versatility. It also features USB 3.1 ports for additional peripherals or charging.
We were really impressed by the 27QHD240 and it is a versatile choice for competitive games too thanks to the lower resolution, while not dropping all the way down to 1080p. You also get FreeSync Premium and G-Sync compatibility as expected. At 27 inches, it’s also ideal if you want a dual monitor setup or simply don’t want a monitor which is a little overbearing, size-wise.
Best budget monitor for Nightingale: ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQ
Pros
- Good value for money
- 1440p resolution
- Up to 165Hz refresh rate
- IPS panel
Last, but not least, we had to include something a little more budget-friendly. While the best 1080p 144Hz monitors are a go-to for many, we definitely want to suggest at least 1440p for such a stunning open-world experience like Nightingale. The good news is that QHD displays are much more affordable these days, with 1080p more or less reserved for entry-level or esports.
The VG27AQ is part of the ASUS TUF Gaming range and delivers excellent gaming performance as a (up to) 165Hz monitor with 1ms response time – it’s also G-Sync compatible. While it can’t boast the same mini-LED or OLED backlighting, it is a quality IPS panel – a type which is favored by designers thanks to the strong color accuracy. This panel type also boasts a wide viewing angle. Overall, the VG27AQ is a great all-rounder that doesn’t break the bank.
What monitor resolution is best for Nightingale?
As a game which, to us, has a big selling point in the art direction and overall visual appeal, we definitely recommend a high resolution monitor for Nightingale. It’s not an esport title where performance is everything, but just know that you’ll want a decent gaming PC to make the most of something like a 4K monitor. We’d recommend 1440p as a minimum if you’re specifically buying a new monitor for this game, but 1080p is still fine if your PC is barely meeting system requirements.
If it’s within your power, we’d ideally opt for 4K for Nightingale, with the alternative being an ultrawide monitor that gives you the best immersive experience possible.
Does Nightingale support ultrawide monitors?
Even ahead of release, developers Inflexion Games ran a stress test event to give players a chance of trying out Nightingale and we’ve spotted some ultrawide gameplay online for the 21:9 aspect ratio – in fact the same 3440 x 1440 resolution as the Alienware AW3423DW we recommend.
So, yes, the game does support ultrawide for 21:9 at the very least. We also expect it to support 32:9 resolutions as this is pretty common for new games. If not natively, then the modding community generally finds a way to make it work.
