Your Samsung Galaxy Watch Can Now Monitor BP & ECG: Here’s how parameters can be tracked


South Korean Tech giant Samsung is all set to host its 1st Unpacked Event for 2024. The brand will launch the flagship Samsung Galaxy S24 Series of smartphones on 17th January at 11:30 PM IST. However, before the first major launch event of the year brand has rolled out some pivotal health tracking features for Galaxy Watches.

Your Samsung Galaxy Watches can now monitor Blood Pressure and Electrocardiogram. The features have rolled out as an OTA air rollout update and are currently available on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Series. It will soon also be available on the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 4 series.

These trackers will help users keep a check on their health and follow up on regular checkups. Both the features have received clearance from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization and users need to download the Samsung Health Monitor App to get these features. The watches come with a Photoplethysmogram (PPG) sensor that can record systolic as well as diastolic pressure, and pulse rate further recording it in the Samsung Health Monitor App.

How to take ECG Reading

  • Pair the Galaxy Watch with a Galaxy smartphone.
  • Wear the watch properly on your wrist and open the Samsung Health Monitor App on your watch.
  • Rest your fingertip of the other hand lightly on the watch’s top button for around 30 seconds. The ECG will be measured.
  • The data will be synced to the smartphone paired with the watch and the report will be created in PDF form.

ECG is a test that detects the heart’s rhythm and can find out any irregularity with your heartbeat.

How to take Blood Pressure Reading

  • Download the Samsung Health Monitor App on your Galaxy watch and smartphone.
  • Follow the instructions on the app to calibrate the watch.
  • Wear the watch properly on the same wrist as during calibration.
  • Measure your BP and review the readings on the watch as well as the app.

A blood pressure test can measure the pressure of blood pumped by the heart in your arteries.
