At the Tilta booth at NAB 2024, we talked to Nick Szubart. We looked at the new Tilta Khronos system for the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Let’s dive right in!
Of course, Tilta introduced a couple of new products at NAB 2024. Days ago we wrote about their new Cine Tripod series, and this time we have the Tilta Khronos, which opens a new Tilta ecosystem for smartphone filmmaking. The latest release blends the best of Tilta camera cages and phone cases, catering to both daily users and filmmakers. Using the case as the central piece and adding different accessories, the modular system converts phones into a filmmaking tool. For a more detailed write-up on the system, here’s our article posted on release day.
Tilta Khronos system
Nick showed us the system mounted on an iPhone 15 Pro Max. A case made of aerospace-grade aluminum alloy is at the core of the Khronos, and although it is removable, it is securely locked with screws. With integrated circuits that can power different accessories, the case offers seven mounting points to rig them and build the desired configuration, as well as a power pass-through.
The accessories are the Khronos Focus PD Handle, a couple of side handles, a cooling module that also powers the iPhone via MagSafe, a cardholder/wallet, ARCA plates, a magnetic filter holder with an ND filter, clamps for power banks, an SSD Drive Holder, etc. The Khronos Focus PD handle connects via USB-C and has a battery inside to power the entire phone case. We can also control zoom and focus in the Blackmagic Camera app through the handle. The ultimate kit also includes a Daylight Mini LED Light, which we can mount in different positions on the case. You can take a look at the various accessories here.
The system is designed to be fast when changing among different configurations or stripping down the phone for low-profile filmmaking.
