Rumors are almost always floating around the internet about upcoming products from Canon, but its 2024 lens lineup is looking pretty definite.
During the first half of 2024, the market-leading camera and lens maker is expected to release several fast prime optics.
These include new L-Series primes with improved glass for faster performance, better low-light shooting and superior bokeh.
More specifically, the most strongly likely lenses are a 14mm f/1.4, a 24mm f/1.4, a 28mm f/1.4 optic and finally a 35mm f/1.4. Among these, the 24, 28 and 35mm models will feature Canon’s image stabilization technology.
It’s worth noting that the focal lengths of all four lenses should make them especially desirable to photographers who want a flexible range of uses, from wide-angle shots to more focused perspectives for street and portrait shooting.
The 14mm lens in particular should be an interesting prospect for photographers who love to take shots of architecture, landscapes, wide city scenes and night skies.
On the other hand, the 24mm prime lens will be versatile for much of what the 14mm can do but with the ability to also handle narrower shots.
As for the 28 and 35-mm lenses, they’ll be particularly versatile for a whole range of photography scenarios. The 28mm in particular should however offer a nice balance between the 24mm’s FOV and the narrower scope of the 35mm.
Overall, with just these four rumored lenses, photographers in many niches should have enough to handle the vast majority of their projects smoothly.
It’s also being rumored that Canon will include new technology in at least one or two of these lenses.
Given the brand’s recent history of developments, patents and remarkable new innovations, this isn’t implausible.
With all of the above said, Canon hasn’t yet officially confirmed anything. However, the brand did affirm a commitment to expanding its range of RF-mount lenses throughout 2023 and 2024. New prime models make sense in that context.
It’s also worth noting in this vein that previous Canon lens rumors from earlier in 2023 have also turned out to be accurate.
