Mark Zuckerberg on Friday said he tore his ACL and had surgery to get it replaced, delaying a competitive MMA fight he had planned for early next year.
The Meta CEO announced the surgery in a post on Instagram alongside photos of him in a hospital bed with a bandaged up leg alongside his wife, Priscilla Chan.
“Tore my ACL sparring and just got out of surgery to replace it. Grateful for the doctors and team taking care of me,” Zuckerberg wrote, adding he had been training for a competitive MMA fight that has now been delayed.
“Still looking forward to doing it after I recover,” he said. “Thanks to everyone for the love and support.”
The Facebook billionaire was dubbed “Shredded Zuck” earlier this year thanks to training and competing in jiu-jitsu matches and posting photos of himself looking absolutely ripped.
In July he posted a shirtless photo of himself training with two MMA legends, Israel Adesanya and Alex Volkanovski. “No fugazi with Mark. This is serious business,” Adesanya wrote under the photo at the time.
In September another video shared by shredded Zuck showed him sparring with the two MMA fighters while on a floating barge, set to an audio clip from the “Mission: Impossible” movie.
It’s unclear what competiive MMA fight Zuckerberg had planned for early next year, but it seems unlikely it was the much-hyped potential cage match between him and Elon Musk.
Despite some back and fourths about the fight earlier this year, it never happened, with each billionaire pointing the finger at the other. Zuckerberg accused Musk of not being serious about scheduling a real fight. On an episode of Joe Rogan’s podcast that aired Tuesday, Musk said he was still willing to fight Zuckerberg “anytime, anywhere.”
