Laowa just launched their Indiegogo Campaign announcing the Nanomorph ZOOM kit, consisting of two new affordable compact anamorphic zoom lenses for Super35 sensors – a 28-55mm and a 50-100mm. Signing up for the campaign gives you 30% off the first sets shipping on March 1st. Let’s take a look at them!
Laowa Optics continue to launch interesting lenses at reasonable prices. Not long ago, we wrote about their Ranger Lite zooms, and now they are coming back with these Nanomorph ZOOM lenses. (Here’s our video review of the Laowa Ranger zooms, in case you missed it.)
A first look
Laowa claims the new Nanomorph ZOOM lenses to be the most affordable and compact anamorphic zooms for Super35 sensors, weighing about 3.31 lbs (1.5kg) each. The kit consists of two PL mount lenses (28-55mm and 50-100mm) with a constant aperture of T2.9. Together, these zoom lenses cover a wide range of focal lengths, which makes them ideal for documentary filmmaking, for example.
The new NanoZoom lenses feature a 3.6x zoom range, and the company assures they present low distortion and chromatic aberration. They have a constant 1.5X squeeze, but we can get a 2x squeeze with the Laowa 1.33x Front Anamorphic Adapter. Finally, the lenses feature amber, blue, and silver flares for those interested in lenses producing different effects.
Price and availability
The Laowa Nanomorph ZOOM kit will be available from March 1st. By signing up for the campaign now, you can save 30% for a set – but we don’t know the price yet. There is also a special deal of $1 (we guess only for very few units), so you can get a NanoZoom almost for free by signing up.
At the end of every crowdfunding-related article, we remind you to please be aware of the risks when backing a project on a crowdfunding platform. Also, please read the platform’s use and remember there can be significant delays when delivering the product. Some projects don’t get delivered at all. Having said that, Laowa is an established and trustworthy company in our industry.
