iPhone 16 Pro models to get 2TB storage option

The freshly brewed Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra arrived with a maximum built-in storage of 1TB. However, reports are doing the rounds of the rumor mill that the iPhone 16 Pro could get double the storage at 2TB. It could be because of a new flash storage tech that offers the same storage in a relatively smaller space but with slower read and write speeds.

The information came from tipster yeux1122 on the Korean Naver blog. According to the same, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max could upgrade to 2TB of built-in storage which is double what iPhone 14 Pro and 15 Pro offers at the moment. Although we have been hearing rumors about a 2TB variant for a few years, the iPhone 16 Pro could likely get it after all.

The apparent hike in top-brass storage variant is likely due to the Quad-Level Cell (QLC) NAND flash drive that allows more storage without taking the same space as the current Triple-Level Cell (TLC) NAND flash drive. However, there’s a catch. QLC is slower in terms of read and write speeds than TLC while being comparatively less expensive.

Upgrading to a 1TB iPhone 15 Pro raises the price tag to $1,499 which is $500 more than what the base iPhone 15 Pro (256GB) fetches. The question is, how expensive will the 2TB variant be once it drops by later this year? For comparison, Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (1TB) costs $360 more than the 256GB variant. However, with double the storage, faster processor, upgraded telephoto lens, and a few things here and there, we are expecting more in terms of price tag.

iPhone 16 models will bring a ‘Capture Button’ possibly enabling you to zoom in and out especially when shooting a horizontal video.
