How to Make a DIY Photo Snow Globe

Did you know that you can easily DIY your own photo snow globes?

Snow globes are beautiful and mesmerizing, but most of us have never considered doing our own.

However, they’re so easy to make that they can be your next crafting project with your kids. You can even create a bunch of them and give them out as party favors.

In this article, I’ll show you how to make a DIY photo snow globe in a few simple steps.

The above video shows how to DIY a photo snow globe using a plastic snow globe.

However, I’m going to show you the step-by-step guide to using a glass jar and a plastic bottle.

Step 1

If you find a plastic snow globe, you can use it. However, I like to upcycle things I have lying around the house. So, I recommend you use a glass jar.

While the size and shape may not create the traditional snow globe, that’s part of the fun of DIY-ing. Plus, you’ll be repurposing materials, which is great for the environment.

So, wash the jar and remove the label – the best way to do this is with hot water.

Using hot glue or water-resistant glue, paste the plastic base on the inside of the jar lid. I used the bottom of a plastic bottle, but you can use anything you’d like.

This is to make your photo and decorations stand higher up. Otherwise, the bottom part would be hidden with the lid. However, you can skip this step if the lid isn’t too deep.

Step 3

Next, make small cuts to position the photo on the plastic base. I’m using two photos glued to one another – this way, the snow globe works both ways.

Depending on the printing process, your photo may be waterproof. If it’s not, you’ll need to laminate it.

I printed mine in a Kodak kiosk and didn’t have to laminate it. However, some inkjet or laser printers might not be waterproof.

Once in place, add glue to secure the photo.

Now, glue any decorations you want to use in front of the photograph.

I’m using colorful letters to spell the word LOVE. However, you can use figurines or any other decorative element.

Once you’re done, leave everything to dry. Depending on the type of glue, you may need to wait a few minutes or a few hours.

Step 5

Pour some glitter inside the jar. You can use a single color or mix them up.

Now, fill the jar with water. You can also use glycerin or baby oil to prevent the glitter from clumping and make it float for a longer time.

If you only use water, you might notice that the glitter forms clumps. However, they dissolve as you shake the snow globe.

Lastly, screw the lid on the jar, turn it around and shake it. That’s how easy it is to make your own photo snow globe.

Feel free to add a ribbon or some other decorations on the outside of the jar.

You can also replace the glitter with white foam for a more traditional “snow” look.
