Google Wallet Now Makes It Easier to Access Movie Tickets

In its recent updates, Google Wallet has introduced a feature that automatically retrieves movie tickets and travel boarding passes from your Gmail account.

As stated in the developer release notes for Wallet, Google now enables the app to automatically import information from confirmation emails for movie tickets and boarding passes. While Wallet has previously supported the display of these items, they will now appear automatically without requiring manual addition.

Google Wallet is Still Expanding this Feature to More Users Google Wallet

According to Google, this feature is currently active for “some” movie chains and airlines worldwide. They are actively working on expanding support to cover more providers in the future.

Movie tickets and boarding passes from Gmail are now surfaced in the Google Wallet when a user buys a ticket and gets a confirmation email in their Gmail. This integration is live for some global movie chains and airlines and we are working to expand this.

It’s important to note that this feature works specifically with emails containing the complete QR code or boarding pass. Therefore, the effectiveness may vary depending on the apps and services you use.

In the same release notes, Google mentions that Wallet has made adjustments to enhance support for boarding passes. This includes improved display of date and time information, along with relocating AppLinkData definitions to a more prominent location on the front of the pass. This change allows users to quickly access the app or website that generated the pass.

The New Wallet Feature is Available on Wear OS Google Wallet

Google emphasizes that users have the option to manually archive passes, a feature that was introduced earlier in the month. Additionally, this functionality is available on Wear OS, providing users with a consistent experience across devices.

In the pipeline, there is a new feature currently in beta testing. This feature allows Wallet passes to integrate with Google Shopping to showcase membership benefits of loyalty cards. As of now, it seems this feature is only being tested in the United States and has not been rolled out globally yet.

Loyalty cards saved to Wallet can now be used to highlight membership benefits while users browse your products on Google Search and Shopping. This feature is limited to the US.
