After having announced the release of its new X100VI camera as the latest in the extremely popular line of X100 shooters, Fujifilm has been inundated.
The company has received orders for the new compact mirrorless camera to a degree even they didn’t predict and has stated that it will take “months” to fulfill all the currently pending backorders.
According to the company, production capacity for this new model is capped at 15,000 units per month and apparently, pending orders now far exceed that amount.
The announcement of the X100VI in February of this year received an absolutely “overwhelming” global response from camera buffs and photography fans.
Fujifilm has claimed that it was ready for a doubling of demand for the X100VI but didn’t expect the flood of orders to far exceed that amount.
Soon after the announcement of the camera, Fuji remained stuck at a maximum production cap of 15,000 units per month according to a Nikkei Report.
Fujifilm confirmed yesterday to the website PetaPixel that the claims by the report are accurate
Fujifilm also explained how it plans to deal with the massive demand for these cameras in the following days.
According to the company,
“We are working to accelerate production to meet the additional demand, however, it will take a few months before we can start to fill backorders. We appreciate our community’s support and patience regarding this matter.”
Despite this, Fujifilm also adds that it will be some time before even current backorders are fulfilled.
The company also stresses, “We are truly grateful and honored that Fujifilm cameras and systems have become the brand of choice for many content creators,”
One possible source of a backlog in orders is the presence of third-party resellers who might buy the cameras in bulk with plans to sell them at a premium down the road.
Many U.S. dealers haven’t been restricting how many X100VI models they would accept, and having to honor those orders, they could be selling to bulk customers.
On the other hand, many of these same dealers aren’t providing anticipated ship times at this point.
Fujifilm itself has added that those who have ordered up to the present date might have to wait until the summer to receive their cameras.
Once initial demand gets fulfilled, the Fujifilm X100VI will start shipping in a more streamlined way, even if this doesn’t happen until early fall.
If you’re willing to run the gauntlet of surging demand for this camera, it’s available for preorder right now for a pretty reasonable price of $1,599.
Considering the popularity of this device, it might just be best to order as soon as possible at what is at least a formal and reasonable retail price.
