FilmaticAI’s ColorClone Announced – An AI Camera-Matching Plug-in for DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere Pro

FilmaticAI's ColorClone Announced - An AI Camera-Matching Plug-in for DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere Pro

ColorClone is a plug-in from FilmaticAI that matches footage from different cameras. Its AI learning system ensures the program keeps learning and improving for better performance. The plug-in will be available for Davinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere Pro. Let’s have a look at what it offers!

Sometimes we face a shooting that requires different camera models and brands – for example, if a production company hires filmmakers with their own gear, or if we need to use B-cameras like drones or smartphones to support our primary camera. Such projects usually need extra post-production work to match those cameras.

AI in the colorists’ workflow

Camera-matching software has been helping us for a while. Plug-ins like CineMatch are well-known among colorists, making the process easier and faster. However, typically operating on a shot-by-shot basis, these plug-ins still leave most of the tedious work to the colorist.

What is new in AI-based software is that it keeps learning and improving its performance the more we use it. Not long ago, we talked about fylm.ai and its new NeuralToneAI tool, for example.

FilmaticAI’s ColorClone features

ColorClone uses an advanced algorithm that considers different factors, such as the mix of different light spectrums, exposure, camera angles, and sensor dynamics.

FilmaticAI was founded by cinematographers Brian Nguyen and Ryan Emanuel, whose main goal is to help filmmakers stay in the creative process instead of wasting time overcoming technical limitations.

Following this idea, ColorClone’s functionality matches your footage from different cameras and enhances your workflow and speed. The idea is to avoid the tedious shot-by-shot matching process. The plug-in analyzes the shots considering characteristics like camera angles to save time and match all your footage.

FilmaticAI is also developing an extension for ColorClone that will allow users to create camera matches by shooting color cards and importing them into the learning algorithm. After that, the plug-in will create a 3D LUT automatically.
