Energizer is hardly a company you’d normally associate with smartphone sales, but this very same brand might unveil one hell of a camera phone soon.
The Energizer brand isn’t widely known to have anything to do with smartphones by most people.
However, this famous battery maker has poked its toes into the phone market before with a handful of notable phone models for having certain unusual features.
This is what its latest rumored phone creation might be about too. According to GSMArena, Energizer has teased the release of a phone model called the P28K, which will -unsurprisingly for this brand- boast an incredibly long battery life.
According to the claims by GSMArena, the P28K is an upcoming phone that will come with a whopping battery power of more than 28,000mAh.
For comparison, the battery on Apple’s flagship iPhone 15 Pro Max “only” offers 4,441 mAh while that of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S24 beats that at 4,900 mAh. Your average smartphone on the other hand usually offers between 2,500 and 3,500 mAh.
With the P28K, Energizer is claiming a remarkable 5.7 times more juice than even the S24 offers and that’s just crazy for a phone. Then again, if one company can do it, it should be Energizer.
At 28,000 mAh, the P28K should have a use cycle of a week at a time between charges and will probably be a fairly bulky device.
Since it’s also rumored to be designed as a phone for heavy-duty rugged use in harsh conditions, the size might not be such a problem for the kind of users who decide to buy it.
In any case, this definitely won’t be your average smartphone, either in its design or capabilities. Another area where this is slated to apply is with the P28K’s camera technology.
According to Energizer, the upcoming phone will come with a hugely powerful 60MP main camera complemented by two additional 20MP sensors. There will also be a 16MP selfie camera in the P28K.
A quick note about camera sensors is in order here. The 60MP sensor might not seem huge by the standards of many smartphones on the market claiming 100 or even 200MP sensors, but a key detail for all of these is pixel size.
Standalone camera sensors generally offer much larger individual pixels than smartphone sensors and thus offer better overall performance even if your average standalone camera “only” offers a 45MP sensor compared to a phone’s 100MP sensor with tiny pixels.
Thus, if the P28K offers larger pixels, its 60MP camera might even offer better photo resolution than many other cameras with seemingly larger sensors.
We’ll have to see how the sensor on this phone was designed after the P28K is unveiled and more details about its specs get released.
As for the screen on this phone, it’s supposed to be a fairly mundane 6.7-inch FHD display, but that’s more than enough for most smartphone use on such compact displays.
So far we know nothing about the P28K’s slated cost, but the company will reportedly showcase the phone during the Mobile World Congress at the end of this month. We’ll post any updates that emerge.
