DJI has boosted the Ronin 4D Cinema Camera to 8K with higher frame rates and improved dynamic range.
The new Ronin 4D-8K also offers expanded codec support and a variety of interchangeable lens mounts to make this camera platform a veritable Swiss Army Knife of content creation.
Let’s a closer look.
Relying on the lessons learned from DJI’s journey to a more stable image, the DJI Ronin 4D-8k offers a new full-frame 8K CMOS image sensor that is capable of capturing 8K video at up to 75 frames per second with over 14.7 stops of dynamic range.
4K at 120p also brings provides for improved image performance in slow motion.
With dual native ISO rated at 8000/4000, the Ronin 4D-8K enhances performance across a variety of lighting conditions and provides a rich color gamut and cinematic depth of field. DJI’s Cinema Color Science (DCCS) delivers more natural skin tones and is capable of reproducing vivid color shades through a new algorithm for higher bit width internal color and tone processing.
The Ronin 4D-8K also supports a variety of professional grade codecs including Apple ProRes RAW, ProRes 422 HQ, H.264, and the open source CinemaDNG found on the Inspire 3 professional drone.
The Ronin 4D-8K also supports DJI’s D-Gamut color space for richer green coloring and skin tone representation, along with D-Log curve for over 14 stops of dynamic range in hiliight and shadows for greater detail in challenging lighting.
The camera is also officially certified by AMPAS for the ACES workflow along with the Inspire 3 and Zenmuse X7 camera lens for consistent color standards.
The camera keeps the image rock steady with 4-axis image stabilization while utilizing DJI’s innovative LiDAR focusing system to generate precise focusing control, even while using the Ronin’s new Automated Manual Focus.
This unique hybrid technology enables the camera operator to allow the focus wheel to rotate in sync as the focus point changes, but then take manual control at any point.
The result is quick and occurring focusing while pulling focus across the entire focal range. The camera also has a built in 9-stop neutral density filter.
