Bright Tangerine LeftField System for Sony BURANO Teased

Bright Tangerine LeftField System for Sony BURANO Teased

British camera accessories manufacturer Bright Tangerine teased their upcoming LeftField System for the Sony BURANO. This solution includes a full camera cage, an EVF/monitor solution, a new D-Style master handle, and the KASBAH VCT-14 shoulder rig.

The Sony BURANO was announced back in September 2023, and while it is expected to start shipping in Spring 2024, the hype around the camera continues to grow. Indeed, the BURANO has an impressive spec sheet on paper, sporting a full-frame image sensor that gives you the ability to shoot in 8.6K in X-OCN LT RAW and XAVC H; it also is the PL-Mount camera that has both IBIS and built-in ND filters. If you remove the PL-Mount, the BURANO also has a Sony E-Mount with autofocus capabilities.

During the Sony presentation in London, my colleague Nino had some time to play with the camera, which was equipped with a couple of Bright Tangerine accessories.

Now the time has come for Bright Tangerine to officially showcase what they have been explicitly designing for the Sony BURANO as part of their LeftField System.

Before we dive any deeper, please remember that the Bright Tangerine LeftField System for the Sony BURANO has just been teased, so this article is based on currently available information and our findings. We don’t have all of the details yet.

At the base of the LeftField System, you’ll find a full wrap-around camera cage with a plethora of 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 mounting points with ARRI-standard locating pins. There are also QD sockets and what Bright Tangerine calls MAP mounting points, which are visible at the front of the top plate. I’m not sure what these MAP mounting points are for.

On the sides of the cage, you’ll also find NATO rails. Similar to what Bright Tangerine has been doing for the RED KOMODO-X, a removable side plate can attach to the side NATO rail. The NATO rails seem to have a new safety button, which looks nice and convenient.

The top plate will be compatible with ARRI BUD – Balance Utility Dovetail – plates, allowing you to balance your top handle and remove it quickly. As you can see, two top handle options will be available: a “classic” Bright Tangerine screw-on sliding top handle and a D-Style master handle.

At the front, you can also see the Bright Tangerine AXL EVF mount, with a specifically designed NATO rotating mount and an LCD bracket. What I found most fascinating was the loupe on the stock Sony BURANO LCD screen, which has a Bright Tangerine marking. Bright Tangerine has never made any loupe in the past, so that would be a first.

At the bottom of the camera, we can see the LeftField 3 baseplate that sets 15mm LWS rods at the correct height from the lens. Bright Tangerine also mentions that it should be compatible with their KASBAH VCT-14 shoulder, but we don’t have any additional information yet.

Price and availability

We don’t have any information about the price of the Bright Tangerine LeftField System for the Sony BURANO yet, but it should start shipping on March 1st.
