At the Consumer Electronics Show 2024, Sennheiser showcased the world’s first TWS earbuds to measure users’ heart rate and body temperature sensors. Even though these technologies have been around for a while, integrating them into a tiny earbud that fits into the ear is a remarkable feat of engineering.
Introducing The Sennheiser Momentum Sport With PPG Sensors
The Sennheiser Momentum Sport has “a photoplethysmography (PPG) heart rate sensor and a body temperature sensor that can each output critical data to popular fitness apps and devices.” Users can pair the earbuds and share the data they collect with popular fitness-related apps such as Apple Health, Garmin Connect, Strava, Peleton, etc.
The Earbuds Also Feature Polar’s Elite Biosensing Capabilities
The Momentum Sport also comes with Polar’s elite biosensing capabilities and data analytics. However, they only send body temperature information to this particular app. Per several reports, the live demo of the product at CES 2024 was flawless, and the earbuds functioned like a regular smartwatch that measures heart rate without any problems.
More Details About The Momentum Sport
Apart from the heart rate and temperature sensor, the Momentum Sport features a new 10mm driver that produces a “vivid sound and impressive base.” The earbuds also feature a semi-open design that lets users be aware of their surroundings. What’s unique, though, is the acoustic relief channel that relieves the occlusion effect and also helps in reducing breathing/footstep noise and “other body-borne distractions.”
IP55 Rating, Shock-Proof Design, And Clog-Resistant Eartips
Like other flagship earbuds, users get a transparency mode, active noise cancellation, and an anti-wind mode. The Momentum Sport also have an IP55 water and dust-resistant rating, which makes them ideal for workouts, shock-proof design, and clog-resistant ear tips. The charging case also has an IP54 rating and offers wireless charging. ‘
Regarding battery life, the earbuds can last up to six hours on a single charge (though the company didn’t mention whether it’s with or without ANC), increasing to 24 hours with a charging case. Further, the quick charge feature allows users to juice up 45 minutes of listening time in under 10 minutes of USB-C charging.
Sennheiser Momentum Sport Price And Availibility
For audio enthusiasts, available codecs on the earbuds include AptX Adaptive, AAC, and SBC. The earbuds also support power-efficient Bluetooth LE Audio and one-to-many broadcasting via Auracast. That said, Sennheiser’s heart rate and body temperature sensing earbuds will be available from April 9, 2024, at USD 329.95 in the United States. The company will make these in three colorways: Metallic Graphite, Burned Olive, and Polar Black.
Momentum True Wireless 4 And Accemtum Plus
Along with the Momentum Sport, Sennheiser also revealed two other models.
The True Wireless 4 offers is built on Qualcomm’s S5 Soune Gen 2 platform, featuring aptX lossless sound codec and ultra-low latency. The Bluetooth v5.4 earbuds also bring Auracast support and improved Adaptive ANC. Per the official release, they last up to 7.5 hours on a single charge and also support wireless charging. The True Wireless 4 will be available from February 15, 2024, for USD 299.95.
The Accentum Plus over-the-ear headphones feature Bluetooth v5.2 connectivity, aptX Adaptive for optimum sound quality, and provide up to 50 hours of listening time on a charge. Other features include adaptive ANC, wind-reduction, and touch-enabled earcups. They will be available from February 20 for $229.95.
