After releasing the iOS 17.2.1 public candidate, Apple is now preparing to launch the iOS 17.3. The software is already in beta testing. Most recently, Apple hinted at the update’s launch, which could happen in a few days.
iOS 17.3 Release Schedule
According to a footnote mentioned on an Apple Newsroom post, the “new Unity Bloom iPhone and iPad wallpaper for the Lock Screen will also be available next week, and requires iPhone Xs or later running iOS 17.3.” This indicates that the upcoming version of iOS should be available in the week of January 22. While writing this report, the iOS 17.3 beta 2 update is available to download and install. However, the release candidate isn’t available yet.
iOS 17.3 New Features
Regarding features, iOS 17.3 will include the Stolen Device Protection feature, which adds several layers of security to iOS. The feature makes it difficult for bad actors to manipulate an iPhone’s security settings. Once a user enables the feature, the phone will require biometric authentication to change iCloud’s password, turn off the Lost Mode, or erase an iPhone. Moreover, the feature prevents thieves from locking users out of their devices.
Another feature that will arrive is collaborative playlists on Apple Music. Although the feature was supposed to come with iOS 17.2, it didn’t. Nonetheless, it is a part of the iOS 17.3 beta 2 and will arrive soon. Collaborative playlists lets friends add or remove songs from a playlist on Apple Music. The Now Playing interface also lets users respond to songs using emojis. While these are the two major features shipping with iOS 17.3, the update will also contain general bug fixes and performance improvements.
