Google Maps now offers AI-powered recommendations and more

Google recently announced a new update to the Google Maps app, which many of us use daily. With this update, Google brings AI advancements to Google Maps, a long-awaited development given the ongoing AI revolution.

Coming back to the update, it’s heavily focused on AI improvements and the user experience such as providing better at-a-glance information on locations, including photo highlights and reviews powered by Google AI. The AI can now even identify a restaurant’s food items and provide details on cost, potential availability, and dietary restrictions.

The search engine giant introduced three main changes to Google Maps that use AI to the core. In select cities across the United States and Canada, Google Maps is rolling out a new feature that lets users access curated lists from trusted sources like OpenTable, The Infatuation, Lonely Planet, and The New York Times.

These lists are designed to give users a glimpse into the local scene, offering recommendations from both the community and well-known websites. While the feature is currently limited to 40 cities, Google plans to expand its availability in the future.

Popular tourist spots will be highlighted in the Best, Gems, and Trending sections. Moreover, with the new list personalization feature in Google Maps, it’s easier for users to prioritize their destinations by rearranging their order in a user-created list.

Users also have the choice to link content from their social channels to further personalize the lists. Google says that the update will be rolling out on Android and iOS later this month.

The new update provides a quick summary of both the photos and reviews. Google uses AI to identify restaurant food items. Thus, with the use of AI, a restaurant’s menu can be generated, with complete information on each item’s pricing, availability, and compatibility with any special diets.

On top of all of this, new pin colors and a simplified main interface with fewer tabs will be available in the next Google Maps update, making navigation even easier. Google wants to enhance the user experience and offer users more relevant information with these updates.
