Sony BURANO Camera Menu Simulator Now Available

Sony has recently introduced a new online menu simulator for their latest CineAlta camera, the BURANO. This free, interactive tool allows you to navigate through the menu system and become acquainted with this high-end digital cinema camera.

Announced back in September, the Sony BURANO 8.6K full-frame CineAlta camera is the world’s first camera to combine a PL-mount, IBIS, built-in ND, and autofocus in the same body. In case you missed it, make sure to watch our in-depth “first look” interview with Sony as well as our IBC 2023 interview with Nobutatsu Takahashi-san, the man in charge of Sony Cinema Line.

According to Alister Chapman, who recently produced a series of official tutorial videos on the new camera, there’s currently a 2-week delay in shipping due to some technical issues, so the first units should become available towards the end of this month. While you wait patiently, you can play around with the new camera menu simulator.

Sony BURANO Camera Menu Simulator

Online simulators serve as invaluable assets for acquainting oneself with a high-end camera system, especially if you don’t often have access to these expensive tools. Sony offers menu simulators for the original VENICE, VENICE 2, and now BURANO. But you can also virtually train your menu skills with ARRI cameras, for example.

Once you open up the simulator, you can navigate through the menus and change camera settings using the touchscreen controls, the LCD buttons, and even the physical buttons on the camera body. The menu system is pretty intuitive, especially if you’re coming from an FX-line camera.

Lastly, since the camera can record a plethora of formats and it’s easy to get lost, you can now download the BURANO Recording Formats and Recording Times posters as a visual aid.

Price and availability

You can now access the BURANO Camera Menu Simulator tool for free on Sony’s website. Although it also works on mobile devices, it is mainly designed for desktop use and is compatible with Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Microsoft Edge, and Mozilla Firefox.

The camera is available for pre-order at B&H and CVP for $25,000.
