An international testing agency has certified an unknown Google smartphone with a 5,000 mAh battery. However, since many Pixel smartphones are about to launch, it’s challenging to determine which one has appeared on the certification platform. Let’s break down the information we have.
Mysterious Google Smartphone Carries The Model Number “GH2MB”
According to a report by Android Authority, a mysterious Google smartphone has appeared on a certification website. While the listing doesn’t contain the handset’s name, it includes the phone’s model number, which happens to be GH2MB. The report mentions that this model number matches the Pixel 7a launched last year, indicating that the phone could be the Pixel 7a’s successor – Pixel 8a.
The Handset Carries A 5,000 mAh Battery
While the listing doesn’t mention much, the handset carries a 4,942 mAh cell, which could be marketed as a 5,000 mAh battery. If the listing belongs to the Pixel 8a, it could indicate a massive bump in the total battery capacity and, simultaneously, the users’ effective battery life.
However, the publication mentions the slightest chance that the listing could belong to another Pixel phone that’s expected to come out soon – Pixel 9. To add to the confusion, the Alphabet-owned company is also working on Pixel Fold 2, the next-generation foldable by the company that is about to debut later this year.
Is It The Successor To Pixel 7a, Pixel 8, Or The Pixel Fold?
Even though the listing carries a model number similar to the Pixel 7a, even the flagship Pixel 9 could use a larger battery. Currently, the Pixel 8 has a 4,575 mAh battery cell, meaning the 5,000 mAh will be a considerable upgrade. On the other hand, the top-of-the-line Pixel Fold comes with a 4,821 mAh battery. Hence, it could also use an upgrade in the department.
Pixel 8a Expected Specifications And Launch Timeline
Most recently, the Pixel 8a’s retail box surfaced online, showcasing the smartphone in its black or Charcoal color. Other than that, the phone is expected to come with a 6.1-inch 90Hz screen. Under the hood, the phone should run on the Tensor G3 processor released with the Pixel 8 series.
Regarding the phone’s release timeline, Google could announce it during the I/O 2024 event in May 2024. Check out the exclusive Pixel 8a renders here.
