OnePlus took the stage in New Delhi today to unveil the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R to the international markets. The two phones were first unveiled in China at the end of last year as the 12 and the Ace 3 so there are no surprises with the specs.
The OnePlus 12 brings the newest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 – with a 30% faster CPU and 25% faster GPU over Gen 2 – with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage (24GB and 1TB are a China-exclusive, seemingly).
Upfront, the 12 has a state-of-the-art 6.82-inch 1440x3168px LTPO 4.0 AMOLED panel with 120Hz maximum refresh rate. The screen can ramp up to 4,500 nits locally and 1,600 nits on the entire area.
Camera-wise, the OnePlus 12 packs the 4th generation Hasselblad Camera for Mobile – highlighted by Sony’s 50MP LYT-808 sensor for the main camera – a 1/1.4-inch imager with a 23mm f/1.6 lens. There’s a 70mm (3x) f/2.6 zoom camera in front of the lauded OmniVision OV64B 1/2.0-inch sensor that does double duty as a 6x and up to 120x digital zoom. The third camera on the back is a 48MP 1/2.0-inch ultrawide unit with a 14mm f/2.2 lens and phase-detect autofocus. There’s a 32MP f/2.4 selfie camera upfront.
The OnePlus 12 in Flowy Emerald and Silky Black
The OnePlus 12 introduces a Dual Cryo-velocity VC Cooling System with a dual VC chamber – small and big – combining for an unmatched 9,140 mm² surface area.
The phone has an omnidirectional antenna design with a total of 16 antennas for superior connectivity. The OnePlus 12 is also IP65 water-sealed.
The 12 packs a massive 5,400mAh battery with 100W SUPERVOOC wired and 50W AIRVOOC wireless charging support. Using the 100W wired option, you’ll be able to get from 1% to 100% in 26 minutes. Users in North America will get a slightly slower 80W wired charger, which is good for 1% to 100% in 30 minutes.
Moving on to the OnePlus 12R. This marks the first time when the R phone will be available outside of India and it will surely be a big deal for those shopping in the flagship killer segment.
The OnePlus 12R packs 2023’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The phone packs the same dual VC (9,140mm2) chamber as the 12, and it’s 76% bigger than the one in the 11R.
The OnePlus 12R has a 6.78-inch 1264x2780px LTPO4 AMOLED with a 120Hz maximum refresh rate and the same 4,500 nit peak and 1,600 nits nominal brightness as the 12.
Where the 12R one-ups the 12 is battery capacity – it ships with a 5,500mAh pack – the biggest OnePlus has fitted to a phone yet. It’s complemented by 100W SUPERVOOC charging (no wireless option here) and the SUPERVOOC S Charging Management Chip, which promises u to 1,600 battery cycles. OnePlus says that it’s more than four years of charging and fully discharging the battery.
The OnePlus 12R has a 50MP IMX890 1/1.56-inch main camera with a 24mm f/1.8 lens, an 8MP 1/4.0-inch ultrawide with a 16mm f/2.2 fixed-focus lens, and a 2MP macro sensor. Upfront is a 16MP f/2.4 selfie camera. Finally, the 12R is IP64 rated for full durst protection and splash resistance.
