Inside My Camera Bag | Giuseppe De Angelis

Hi, my name is Giuseppe, and I am an Italian wedding photographer.

My photography journey began fourteen years ago, and I experienced the transition from analog to digital, from Ilford 35mm films to SD memory cards.

I studied Reportage Photography at the I.I.F. in Milan, Italy, and photography has become essential to my life.

When I started photography, I chose the Nikon brand and have stuck with it over time.

I have used many Nikon cameras: Nikon D3s, D750, D4s, D5, D850, Z6, Z6II.

I also used the Fujifilm system for a couple of wedding seasons, and then the time came for me to change.

Sony has entered the world of photography with a straight leg for a long time; its products are constantly evolving, and what they launch on the market is extraordinary in terms of technology.

In my work, I need a lot of precision, perfect focus, stable camera software, and impeccable consumer assistance, so I decided to switch to Sony.

Sony A7 IV  – times two. I use these cameras in pairs; they are reliable, precise, and quite a fast mirrorless camera. They have fast and excellent focus capabilities, never missing a beat!

This detail is necessary because I am always working in AF-C, and having a camera body capable of working under stress and always bringing home shots in focus is a must for me.

Eighty percent of the time, I work with natural light, and this mirrorless camera allows me to work at high ISO without losing details.

I love the color rendering of its files; this model has been completely revised with new color science. You can really notice it in skin colors.

Canon EF – this analog SLR was given to me by my father, an amateur photographer, who I purchased it back in the seventies. I am very fond of this fantastic reflex.

I take it with me for lifestyle outings and street photography, coupling it with a Canon 50mm f/1.8 or the Canon 28mm f/2.8.

Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II – is a great all-round lens and one of the best recently produced by Sony. It has excellent color rendering, superlative blur, and extreme sharpness.

It has the perfect focal range for a photographer like me who shoots weddings, lifestyle, and street photography.

It is a lens that I have always attached to one of my cameras, which completes my primary kit for weddings together with the 50mm.

Sony FE 50mm f/1.4 GM – is my favorite lens with my favorite focal length. It is attached to my second body and completes the winning combination with the Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8.

It’s a wonderful lens. I use it mainly to capture true ceremony moments and take beautiful portraits of married couples. It’s a true G Master lens!

Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art – is another fantastic lens. I don’t use this one much at weddings. Still, it comes in handy in situations that require a telephoto, long church shots, reportage situations where it is better to be invisible, and portraits of couples.

It has a fabulous blur. I chose the Sigma Art over the Sony GM as it appears to have warmer tones and is slightly brighter with the same shooting data.

I’m looking forward to an upgrade to the Sony lens with a GM Mark II!

Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art – this lens is always in my backpack, but I don’t use it much. For me, it is more of a backup lens or used in extreme situations where having a wide focal range can help.

A lens with surprising photographic performance, even at full aperture.

Godox V1-S – I don’t particularly appreciate using flash because I like to use ambient light at weddings, even in low-light situations.

Sometimes, however, for evening receptions without lighting services, I rely on this flash for its soft light. It has this softness thanks to its round reflector. I mainly use it at parties while people are dancing.

Godox xPro S TTL is a fantastic trigger for managing Godox flashes.

HoldFast MoneyMaker Harness – these straps are indestructible, the best on the world market. Personally, I chose this brand for its quality and its line. I have two pairs in different colors.

I use a Mac Mini with the Adobe suite and Adobe Lightroom for post-production of my photographs. This program allows me to work quickly and with a clean and linear workflow.

I love taking my Ray-Ban glasses with me while I work. They allow me to see in 4K super HDR. I also carry a lot of cans of Red Bull in my car.

I am happy and honored to be part of one of the largest photography communities in the world!

2021

Hi, my name is Giuseppe and I am an Italian wedding photographer. My photographic journey began 14 years ago.

I lived the transition from analog to digital, between old 35mm Ilford films and SD memory cards. I studied Reportage Photography at the I.I.F. in Milan, Italy. Today, photography has become an essential part of my life.

When I started photography, I chose the Nikon brand and I have stuck with them over time. I have used a lot of Nikon cameras – D3s, D750, D4s, D5 and D850 reflex cameras. My final choice was the new Z6 mirrorless.

Cameras

Nikon Z6 II – I use this mirrorless as a primary, it is a reliable, fast camera and it has double slots for backup. The Z6 II has amazing autofocus. I work 80% of the wedding in natural light and the Z6 II makes me work at high ISO without losing detail and I love the color rendering of its files.

Nikon Z6 – I use this mirrorless as a secondary camera, it has the same features as the Z6 II but without the ability to backup files. Reliable.

Mavic Mini – I use the drone for landscape photographs and to show the wedding location, I love the perspectives.

Canon EF Black Beauty – This analog reflex was given to me by my father. I am very fond of this great reflex. I take it with me for some lifestyle outings and street photography. I use the 50mm f/1.8 and the 28mm f/2.8 as a lens.

Lenses

Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S – Fantastic all-round lens. This has superlative quality even at maximum aperture. I use it for most of my shots.

Nikkor Z 14-30mm f/4 S – Lens with large wide angle excursion. I use it little, for the preparation of the bride and groom in small rooms and for couple portraits in breathtaking landscapes.

Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.8 S – Superlative lens, I use it a lot, in church, in civil ceremony, and in couple portraits. It has a fabulous blur, my favorite.

Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.8 S – This lens has bewitched me! I use it in most wedding scenes when I need it blurry in full light and low light situations. I often use it at wedding parties, when the DJ set starts playing, in ambient light it is wonderful.

Lights/Triggers

Godox V1n x2 – I use this flash for its soft light, it has this softness thanks to its round dish. I use it for group and family portraits and for dancing.

Godox xPro N TTL – This is a fantastic trigger to manage Godox flashes.

Bags/Straps

HoldFast MoneyMaker – These straps are the best ever in the world market, indestructible. I have personally chosen this brand for its quality and for its line.

Hardware & Software

I use an iMac 27, I own the Adobe suite and I use Lightroom for postproduction of my photographs. This program gives me the possibility to work quickly and with a clean and linear workflow – guide here.

Misc.

I love to take my Ray-Ban eyeglasses with me that allows me to see in 4K super HDR. I also carry a lot of Red Bull cans with me in my car.

I am happy and honored to be part of one of the largest communities of photographers in the world!
