Google Messages is the company’s communication service that enables users to send and receive messages. However, what makes it appealing is RCS support. Using Google Messages, people can share images, videos, links, and other multimedia items, such as GIFs and stickers, just like they would on a third-party app like WhatsApp or Telegram. And now, Google Messages also supports Ultra HDR images.
What Are Ultra HDR Images, And Why Do They Matter?
According to a report by TheSpAndroid, Google Messages recently added support for Ultra HDR images in RCS-enabled chats. The feature allows users to send and receive ultra HDR images with higher contrast ratio and brightness. As the name suggests, the format provides a better viewing experience and can be viewed by users on HDR and non-HDR screens.
For those catching up, this new image format is exclusively available on Google’s latest operating system, Android 14. Per the app’s code, Google added support for Ultra HDR images right before it launched the Pixel 8 series, which happens to be the only smartphone that supports the new image format.
